Changemakers: A Year of Learning, Connection and Conversations

Changemakers is our informal, three-part networking series delivered in collaboration with Bibendum Wine, created to bring together hospitality leaders who are actively working towards a more equitable, inclusive and diverse hospitality sector across the UK.
Each event provided an intimate space for 30–40 senior leaders to learn, share and connect with fellow advocates of inclusion, fostering honest dialogue, practical insight and a collective commitment to transforming our industry for the better.
Event One: Culture and Connection (March)
We kicked off our first session in March with an exceptional panel who set the tone for the entire series.
- Fernanda Antonio, People and Culture Director at Caravan, explored the importance of creating a hospitality culture where everyone thrives.
- Craig Prentice, Founder of Mum, spoke on the heart and soul of workplace culture, encouraging leaders to show up authentically.
- Gina Knight, Head of People at Flat Iron, reflected on the mindset shift required to move away from initiatives that look good but lack real impact.

The conversation encouraged us to slow down and deepen our understanding of what meaningful workplace culture can look like. It was an energising start that allowed us to reflect on the work already happening in hospitality and imagine a future with even greater impact.
Event Two: Representation and Reality (June)
In June, we welcomed a powerhouse trio:
- Rebecca Oliver-Mooney, Founder of Raising The Glass and Head of Commercial & The Apiary at Co-op
- Junior Lewis, Global Hospitality Client Consultant Lead at Caterer.com
- Denise Allen, People Director at WSH

This conversation highlighted that representation alone is not enough. Hospitality cannot simply invite people into the room; it must ensure they are safe, heard and able to thrive once inside it.
The speakers explored repairing systemic gaps, embedding accountability and recognising that inclusion is not decorative work, it is foundational. Community, connection and storytelling emerged as essential tools for change, while the expectations of Generation Alpha emphasised the urgency to evolve. The message was clear: EDI is no longer optional; it is business critical.
Session Three: Belonging and Behaviour Change (November)
To close our final session of the year, we were joined by:
- Stella Amor MCIPD, MIH, FIEDP, Diversity, Inclusion, Equity & Belonging Specialist
- Raj Jones, Senior Executive in Culture Transformation and DEI
- Lorraine Copes, Founder and CEO of Be Inclusive Hospitality

This event explored what it truly means to design workplaces where people can belong. We learnt how lived experiences shape the way leaders approach inclusion and act as catalysts for more empathetic design. The discussion encouraged participants to embed inclusion into daily practice, confront root causes of inequity and choose connection over division.
Speakers highlighted the need to understand our people against a shifting social landscape, reflecting on language, framing, AI, guest experiences and the evolving expectations of future generations.
Building Community, Not Just Insight
These events do more than share insight; they build community. They create a space where honesty is not just welcomed but required. In a sector facing generational change, extreme pressures and rising expectations, these conversations are essential.
