Total number of years spent within Hospitality?
20 years
What do you most enjoy about this industry?
The people, and the diversity of the industry. The community is so small worldwide, everyone knows one another. London is like a village in hospitality, and there is a sense of community, and a real feeling of togetherness and closeness.
What does a typical day look like for you?
An early start, take my son to school, and then I catch the train into London. I then work for a couple of hours, have meetings, and then at lunchtime go to the gym. I tend to be busier towards the weekend, and usually finish at about 7pm.
Tell us something we might not know about the sector?
It is not all smiles, everyone has a good and bad day, but there is loads going on behind the scenes. It is similar to the theatre, whereby you attend and witness a seamless performance, and behind the scenes can be chaos. This is what we are trained to deliver, that seamless performance.
What has been the single most important piece of advice given to you?
To listen, one of my first mentors said to me that I do not listen, and said that I needed to do this and work as a team and not as a individual.
Three dinner guests of your choice?
My biological mother (because I never met her), Kofi Anan, and Ernest Hemmingway
Last documentary watched and book read?
The last documentary I watched was 'Self Made: Inspired by the Life of Madam C.J Walker'
Finish the sentence, the future in hospitality is……..
Hospitality is within all of us, even going to your friend’s house, or the people you live with, who are keen to make you comfortable, or look after you. Compassion for others is hospitality.
