Meet the Panel

Meet the panellists who will be joining us on Monday 25th October at Somerset House for the ‘Black Women in Hospitality‘ event. Starting at 7pm this collaboration with Chef and Restauranteur Akwasi Brenya Mensa will also include West African Canapes, West African and Caribbean Drinks and networking.

Keshia Sakarah

Food writer & Chef/founder, Caribe

Keshia started Caribe’ in 2018 after being inspired by Caribbean food culture at home, and how inaccessible and underrepresented it was in the food scene. Caribe’ was born as a pop-up, which turned into a kitchen takeover and long term residency in numerous spaces across London. The restaurant finally found its home in Brixton in 2019, celebrating the Caribbean eating all year round. All this has helped her on a path of self-discovery, using the history of Caribbean food to further understand herself and her identity.  She has written for sites such as Condé Nast Traveller, BBC Good Food and Olive Magazine.

Jenna Ba

Global Brand Ambassador, Diageo

Jenna has over 10 years experience working behind some of London’s bars, most recently at Chiltern Firehouse and also spent over three years at The Brompton Club, which she credits as the bar that inspired her bartending style. Now as the Global Brand Ambassador for Diageo, she is working to educate and inspire bartenders, and working with consumers providing tips on creating world-class drinks at home and telling the brand’s story to drive advocacy in both channels. She has spent the last decade refining her skills and building an appreciation for what is needed to develop an establishment.

Joke Bakare

Chef/founder, Chishuru

In 2019, Adejoké ‘Joké’ won the ‘Amateur’ section of the Brixton Kitchen competition, giving her West African supper club Chishuru the opportunity to launch as a standalone restaurant in Brixton Village. The food is based around West African dishes, combining the best of British and African produce. Winning for Joké was a major step towards fulfilling her dream of introducing her vision of West African cuisine to the London food scene. The feedback Chishuru has received so far has been wonderful, and she is glad to be able to bring pleasure with her food and introduce the cuisine of her region to more people.
